The Windsor FC Nationals soccer club sent 5 teams on
April 8 to 10, to compete in the Mid-American Soccer
Classic (MASC) tournament in Fairfield near Cincinnati
Ohio. The FC Nationals brought back 3 Championship Golds
and 1 Silver. The tournament featured 375 teams from
across the USA Midwest competing in ages from Under
9 to Under 18.
The 91 Boys (Under 14) coached by Marko Paranosic won
their championship going 2-1-0 in the first round, beating
teams from Pittsburgh (4-0) and Columbus (3-1) and tying
a Cincinnati team (2-2) before winning in overtime against
another Cincinnati team in the championship game 3-2.
The 90 Boys (Under 15) coached by Frank Chiandussi won
their championship by going undefeated in the tournament.
The FC Nationals 90s finished with four wins and no
losses by defeating teams from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan
on their way to the Championship.
The 88 Boys (Under 17) coached by Steve Hart were also
undefeated and not scored upon over the weekend at the
MASC tournament. On Saturday, the FC Nationals 88s defeated
Alliance 3-0 then the Star Wildcats 1-0. On Sunday,
the winning streak continued with a 3-0 beating of a
very strong Dayton Ohio team. This put the FC Nationals
88s in the final against Cincinnati winning the game
1-0 with a goal by Gino Berardi at the 84th minute.
Great shutout goalkeeping by Joey Pierzak for the entire
weekend kept a remarkable 4 clean game sheets.
The 87 Boys (Under 18) coached by Angelo Verardi brought
back a silver in the Under 19 Division. The team had
two wins and a tie on their way to the final game where
they came across an elite Ohio team loosing the game
with a 3-1 score.
