Windsor’s Yele Sodade was selected by the Seattle Sounders in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
The six-foot-three, 195-pound Sodade scored 29 goals with 11 assists in four years with the University of Alabama-Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.
Sodade is a graduate of Holy Names high school and the Windsor FC Nationals program.
“Babayele Sodade is a big presence up front,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said.
“He’s got good pace. He showed well at the combine, he’s had a good career at UAB and he’s the kind of player who could be a surprise guy like (Kansas City forward) C.J. Sapong was last year.”
Sodade led the team in goals (13), assists (5), shots (53) and points (31) this year.
He also had a league-leading eight game-winning goals and earned first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honours.
